I reckon 24 is the perfect granny ring size, 22 is just too small

That's with a 11-36 cass.

But seeing you have it already I can't really see it being a big issue , you may find you prefer the ratios it gives.

haha... Ok truthfully, midway through The Freedom Challenge I was still riding 34/20...... :drool:

 

 

But seriously, on my AR bike I have a 36-24 on the front with an 11-34 cassette and it works like a dream.

 

I like a bit of resistance on the pedals and actually, contrary to earlier comments, you will climb faster provided you can keep your cadence ticking over nicely.

 

Don't stress, there is no right or wrong way, as long as it feels good and you enjoy it. If you don't like it get a 22.... Nothing ventured......

Did a couple of short and long hills yesterday and the 24t actually feels better. There is no longer that 'gap' when you drop down onto the small chainring and to me it feels as though its more energy efficient.
