I would stay away from the 953 for Mtb, the strength ratings are great but the material is not as tough as it should be, i did my home work and samples and the whole bit and settled on the Columbus range.

Ta, interesting....ja I suspect it might be hard...but hard isn't tough now is it.

 

Same situation as a diamond...it might be the hardest material in the world but you can shatter it with a builder's warehouse 30 rand hammer

Stainless has the same stiffness as oher steel, and there are many grades. Some grades should be in the same strength ball-park as the steel in the table above. There is no reason not to make a frame from stainless, if it is properly designed and welded, it would be better than steel, because it does not rust. More expensive, though.

Sure but then again you can probably draw thinner but larger tubes which makes the bike feel stiffer with 953....
