I bought a XT 2x10 Crank, 40/28, two weeks ago, I was more looking at purchasing a 38/26 as this is what I'm used to riding, but no-one I tried had one in CT, so I went with the other.

Question: Will I experience any shifting issues/ chain dropping etc if I changed the 28 ring for a 26?

I read somewhere that shimano's chainrings are specific designs for the configurations offered and shouldn't be changed.

Has anyone tried this before?

I know I can convert the whole thing to 38/26, but I quite like the 40 for flatter sections

You should be able to go to 26.

If you wanna try it, I have a brand new 26 tooth chainring in the garage.

I work near Tygervalley so quite easy to get it to you.

Just converted my 26/38 to 40t blade and works perfectly. Now running 26/40.

You tell me this now? Been wanting a 40t for the flats but thought it wouldn't work with the 26t. Guess I'll have to wait another year for my 38 to wear out before replacing it again. At least I now know it works. Thanks :)

Thx for the input everyone. Gonna give it a bash.

@Flowta, is it a XT 26 you have? If so I'll buy it off you, let me know, thx!

It's not XT, it's Deore, will fit the XT crank. Steel, so will last "forever".
