Constant chain suck

The chainsuck will also happen when you 'cross chain'. I'm sure you know what that is but if you don't its when you are in the granny ring and a smaller ring on the cassette just before the hill. ie; you shifted from big to small before you shifted up the cassette.

But chain wear will just exaggerate any settings you have that are slightly out. I would replace the chain, give everything a thorough clean and then make sure you never cross chain when you shift.

If it still happens you probably need to have a look at the small chain ring. They are relatively inexpensive at about 250 zar, which will again pay itself back in no time when you no longer have to buy blood pressure pills or anxiety tablets......

IMO - Change the chain and the smaller ring at the same time - you have quite a few km on the drivetrain in MTB terms and the worn ring is part and parcel of the problem. That may precipitate a casette change as well though, if the new chain starts slipping at the back.
