How do you protect your frame?

Oh the only schlep is cutting it, but it could also be seen as a positive because you can do custom shapes for weird shapes and bends.

Don't know, been using it for two months now with no issues, but even if it does after 6 months, it will take me 7 years + to work through that roll...but hey whatever floats your boat.

Yo

Yea it is a continuous roll, like a monster roll of selotape. Thickness, no idea...but it feels quite think, cause it welds closed when if it gets a cut from a rock, which is a nice addition. Not that it matters because you get so much, you can stick another set on. You have to prepare the area with alcohol though or meths....then it sticks nice and firm

OK, saw your picture after I posted my reply. I haven't actually seen the Race Face tape so I can't really comment. I have given out samples to a few riders and the general feedback was positive, I have been using it on both my trail and DH bikes and it has stood up to a fair amount of abuse.

This came about out of necessity. Standard vinyl from your local stationary/hobby shop or sign writer was cheap, but in a nutshell it was shyte. I needed more than that. After a lot of research I ended up with what I have now.

Cool man, at the pricepoint you posted there will defnitely be a market....the kits you buy at the cycling shops are very expensive...like in 180 bucks + and then the downtube coverage is very limited.

This reminds me of these plastic wrapped couches I've seen (luckily only US sitcoms of sometime ago - don't really watch TV these days).

Anyway, wrapping makes the couch looks k k from day one, non wrapping it takes a little longer - your choice!

On the serious side: using car polish makes for easier cleaning. Too much protection tape? - refer above.

Cheez dudes, R180 on a 16k frame is NOTHING to keep your beauty sparkling.

Frameskin stuff is around R800 for a frame custom cut set, and then still shipping and importing...

Fitting it is a M-of-a job!!!

I recon R600 for a frame covered and fitted is a BARGAIN!!!!

Ya if its 10 year outdoor vinyl shouldnt discolour for that period so could work out the same in the end 10m - 1m( if you had to recover it 10x in 10 years),except for if you did 10 bikes 1st time as a business.

Seems good and cheap though, ima keep on the lookout for a sample

How do your guys protect the paint on your bike if at all? I have heard of some guys using 'Mr Min' but sure if it will cause more damage than protecting the paint. Apparantly it also makes for an easier cleaning session next time round .... :-)

Mostly with skin & flesh.

Not sure it makes cleaning any easier.

Makes it look like a custom paint job. Adds to "coolness".

Does it prevent you bike from getting stolen??

Only if criminals wish to avoid stealing bikes with pristinely preserved paintjobs at all costs!

I Use Silicon spray. Its the same as Mr Min but you don't smell like the furniture, or the same as spray and cook but you don't smell like the local corner cafe on Thursday night when the chips are frying in the 3 week old oil.

Silicon works like Dash but gives a lekker sheen to the frame and the black bits. Every Sunday after the ride is complete - quick wash and respray.

The simplest reason is that the bike is piss easy to clean. Mud comes off very quickly and easily with a hose and the bike sheds dirt without any hassles.

I do have transparent plastic film which i used when I was riding motorcycles - Raceface I think it is called (like the cranks but a protective coat), which I have stuck on the fork legs and on the down tubes in the past when they are unprotected. It does a great job of reducing paint chips. You can get it at any motorcycle shop that has a couple of accessories.

You can also get really nice downtube protectors from some sites and crank end covers whcih stop you from crunching the crank ends when you bottom them. A couple of US Sites have them.
