So here is the story...I can get a set of Zipp 404's with the dimples for an insanely good price... Used once...About a hundred k's

What is the weight limit on these ? Does the dimples make any difference or is it just for show?

All and all a nice set of wheels... Has yellow stickers though but I'm sure they can change it???

Zipp FAQ

What are the recommended rider weight limits for Zipp wheels?

CSC, tubular Cyclocross, Clydesdale, Powertap and track versions of our wheels have no weight limit, ( your bike frame limits should be checked too). The ZED6,  ZED8 and ZED10 wheels with the super-stiff laminate option would also have no weight limit,  if these are also built using the 24 hole rear spoking option (not the standard 18 spoke rear lacing).

For our other Zipp wheels, we recommend:

185 lbs (85kg) for 202 tubular,

200lbs (90kg) for 303 tubular,

225lbs  (102kg) for 404, 808 and 1080 tubular wheels

260 lbs (120kg) for clinchers (except 303 = 220lbs or 100kg)

Roadies >>200 lbs (90kg) and triathletes >>220 lbs (100kg) should consider the Clydesdale version for improved lateral stiffness. (You can buy the wheels without the Clydesdale decals if you so wish).

Larger and more powerful / aggressive riders need more spokes, cross lacing pattern, traditional flanges, shorter spokes and/or deeper rims to get the wheel stiff enough for adequate and safe power transmission.

If you're not paing R7000 or less, it's not a bargain. New ones, with the yellow stickers, sell for R10 000 at Cajees.

And yes, you can replace the stickers.

The yellow ' Raleigh Special Edition' Stickers?

Very nice wheels, i had a pair for about 18 months. Very durable, and fast, but a bit heavy. I had a few issues with the rear hub loosening up, but that not to hard to fix. otherwise they were pretty bombproof. Think the weight limit for the std Zipp wheels is 85kg? But i may be wrong!

So if Cajees are selling the for R10K what is the normal price...? Problem is that I want a set of Carbon rims...Looked at the spinergy stealths but the finish on them were horrible, looked like plastic rims...A set of edge or equinox will set me back between R7 and R8k. But at the price the dude is asking me I might as well buy from Cajees. What is wrong with those 404's or is Cajees price actually just good?

Have been of the road for about 5 weeks due to a back injury so my weight has not been what it should be and I have never been the lightest of guys.Hence the question about the weight limit.

Otherwise I should stick to the alu rims and maybe get a nice set of Fulcrum racing 1's?

the yellow ones comes from the 08 Raleighs. They are the same as the originals but just specially marked for the Raleigh package.

Sabre, only read the post on the rims now.  Belive you me, the Fulcrum 1's are very  nice.  Maybe not in the same league as the Zipps, but great non the less.

So if I ride my Specialized with 404's with yellow sticker on everyone will know that I secretly desire to have a raleigh??Wink

I do not compete with the front crowd but still would like to have some decent equipment. Do I take the Zipp's and risk them braking as I said I'm not the lightest, or do I stick with tried and tested alu rims.

My father in law has had Pro Lite and Edge carbon wheels and he swears by them. But when you take a good alu wheel it is nine out of ten times just as light and possibly a lot stronger..Especially as jy so dik is soos ek!

What to do....Disapprove

I don't think they will brake. All the "general" Taiwan branded wheels comes from the same factory. You can have a look at Edge, Karbonia ans Equinox, they are all the same.

Personally, if you are not a contendar for the top positions, I will settle for the Fulcrum 1s. Every Tom, Dick and Mary has Zipps (thanks Raleigh) but only a few of us use Fulcrum.

Brake = slow down

Break = what happens to your bike or parts thereof when it has a sudden stop against something

Class over .........
