Ultra Poormans XX1

I've ordered two already ($100 each) and they include a 16t to replace the 15t and 17t , shipping was free and they arrived pretty quickly, paid customs fee at the post office, so all very easy.

I ordered about 2 months back, took 3 weeks to get here and when i collected at the Post office i was expecting to pay the tax but the lady just gave me the package and never blinked an eyelid..

Its not about the weight

What is it about then, if not weight.

Wear and tear will be the same if not higher.

Chainsuck issues will be the same well on my 2 x 10 I have never had chainsuck in 2 years.

Maybe a "cleaner" bar, but this is very subjective.

My 1 x is even a poorer version as I run a 1 x 9 with a std rear der, but am using a chain guide with roller and a s/steel SS chainring.

Chain suck ... never heard of it :), the real benefit for me was that the chain no longer comes off on very rocky descents. That is priceless.

With the SS chain ring, once this eventually wears I can simply turn it around again and get more life out of the back end of the teeth ..... so it lasts 2 x as long.

Sure top end speed is sacrificed, but for me I do not race out on flats.

I don't think I can go fast enough on the flats to require a bigger chainring.

It depends on the type of riding you do. When I was riding with 2X drivetrain, I found that I was shifting a lot between my two front chainrings as the routes I ride have lots of ups and downs but very little flats.

For my application 1 x 10 works great, I have all the gears I need for the type of riding I do, I have less moving parts on my bike, and my bike is a lot quieter on the descents as there is no FD or guide on which the chain can slap.

Cleaning your chainring and RHS crank area is also a breeze if you have 1 x drivetrain without a guide.

Im Running a OneUp Components 40/16T on a 1X10 with a 32/34 Front depending on the ride..

Fitment was super easy with thr SRAM PG-1070 as the 15/17T are already loose in the cassette..

They give a compatability list for cassette derailleur for both sram and shimano, on their website.

Been riding it for a couple of weeks includng a Sani2c, no complaints loving the ratios

Ok, so 42T at the and the 34 up front. What u think? Or should I rather go for the 32?

Depends on 3 things

  1. Wheelsize (bigger wheel, possibly smaller chainring)
  2. Where you want to ride
  3. Legs (more important, can yield 1. & 2. null and void)

For what it's worth on 26"/650B I have 11-41 with 34 up front and works for me in most situations.

you can also leave the small chainring as a manual shift bail out gear. (only ±50g or so)

Have been giving this a lot of thought. Wouldn't even see it unless you get up close and to stop at the bottom of a 25% gradient climb will cost you 10seconds or so.
