So I'm about to become the proud owner on the 50mm Mavic cosmic sl's.

Anyone have any feedback with them?

I've heard loads of complaints about spokes being hard to come by, but anyone who's riding them have any experience?

What are the best brake pads to use to avoid screwing the brake track up? I hear the standard shimanos are a bit too hard?

Thanks in advance!

For a buffalo like me, they were nice and strong and I had no problems. No I won't say that they climbed well, or that they were fast, as I left my flame suit at home today. The question is, did they make me feel fast??? Oh yes... I bought mine used and sold them again on the Hub, to buy another MTB frame, not because they were crap. Would I buy them again? Sure if I did more than one road race a year...

Thanks for the responses so far, however I'm not looking for their benefits. I've owned and ridden deep sections before, these will be insurance replacements.

Need to know more about servicing, ease of maintenance, and ease of obtaining spares?

I'm told they're pretty bombproof, which I like, but knowing my luck, something will happen!

Thanks!

Yes...the spokes are hard to get and pretty expensive to.

I have a few spare that i bought in Germany for about 4 euro each.

I have had Mavic Cosmics from the aulminium rims of the 90's up to the current wheels.

I have crashed with them, been hit buy a car and bunny hopped pavements and never broken a spoke. They are pretty tough and i think if you did break a spoke you'll be needing a new wheel.
