Under what rock do you live? The Molotto road has never been and will never be a 'Safe route' for anyone, never mind cyclists! A search for Moloto Road returns images of several crashes.

And Championchip? Are you serious? R160 for the race PLUS R120 for a timing chip? Never.

A "moderate to difficult" route with a four hour cut off? That is fine for the top riders that start at 0700 but not everyone will so they will have even less than 4 hours to complete the route.

And judging by that road on the way to Trailseeker Cullinan in July it would be anything but safe to race on!

The cut-off is at the 70km mark - on the 105km route, therefore any rider who sees fit to attempt 105km should easily make the cut.

Yes, we will make the race as safe as can possibly be.

Metro Police have been arranged and will be on duty.

Road Ranger motorcycles and Lead vehicles for start groups.

No intersections will be crossed by cyclists - only Left turns on the route.

Dedicated Marshals posted at every intersection.

Bear in mind the race is on Sunday morning - so traffic will be minimal.

Sorry Dave, I used that road for a long time as I built a off-road track some 30km's out on it - if you think that 'chains' of 10 putco busses at a time doing 120 km/h on a Saturday morning is safe, be my guest. I have seen more accidents on that road than I care to remember, all of them over weekends (as I never drove/rode it in the week)

The race is this coming 'SUNDAY' and not 'SATURDAY' when you were building your track ..... :whistling:

I cycle this route nearly every Sunday morning and it is an awesome loop. The busiest part is the actual Moloto road but definately nothing to get excited about in terms of safety.

Also no need to be condescending. If you want to organize a race on one of the most notorious roads in South Africa, be my guest, but don't go calling it safe. And don't be a little bitch when someone warns other people about the dangers of your folly.

@ Riaan Coetzee, smile and wafe boet, life is really not that serious. You clearly have issues with Campion chip and Jacaranda - deal with it and leave the rest of us to decide on our own whether we want to do this race.

The route is as safe as any other route in Gauteng on a Sunday. I have used it for the past 2 Sundays to get familiar with the route and it was fairly quiet.
