To SA = 10GBP ... ok ...

so how much to Afghanistan then .... = FREE

You mean from the USA to SA.? or the UK.?

..........but in general, unless you are registered as a "Known shipper" with USA customs, the USA has very high security and screening surcharges which are applied to all parcels entering and leaving the country, and the courier has to pay these costs up front, so naturally they pass those costs (with a profit margin) along to you in their tariff.

Probably this is what is increasing the cost exponentially, the only way to get around it is to register as a known shipper with your forwarder and USA customs, you still pay the fee, but its much less.

It did go via the UK first, stayed there a night, and then came to SA....that was with fedex though. Can't complain about the time, took three days to land in south africa and another 2 days in our customs
