Merida vs Trek

For that money, why don't you have a look at some classifieds on the hub. You could score a much better for the same price point.

I learnt the hard way, always buy up to the best you can afford.

To go from Tiagra toSora is probably already a compromise.

My advice: Do NOT ever buy an entry level model, ever! You will always wish you had maybe gone with 105, Ultegra etc...and to upgrade will make your eyes water!

As per advice I have browsed the classifieds ... Seeing as I am in no rush I will keep viewing them until I find something. If I have learnt anything from this thread and the original question it has been that components are worth a lot more than the frame ... Splitting hairs over frames, but components seem to defintely have more than emotional support ...

True, and a good view to have, but some frames are genuinely better than others. A Cannondale/Pinarello is better than a Trek, for example. But one must consider the age of the product that you buy. 2009 XT is not better than 2012 SLX, if you know what I mean.
