Hello!

Does anyone have any eating plan for cycling. I know everyone is different in regards to their current weight and required carbs, proteins and fats etc, but i am interested in peoples opinions and what works for them.

I am trying to loose weigtht at a reasonable rate but dont want to cut out all the carbs so i feel week when i cycle. If you know otherwise i'd love to know.

Cheers

You got me on this one but I would imagine you should cut out all fast foods and sweets - eat your veggies.

I pretty much eat and drink what ever I feel like and let the cycling take care of the rest. I do have a protein drink every morning (Full cream Milk?)with a 1000mg of Vit C and Echinacea. Other than that nothing special.

Hi Kent,

Welcome to the hub.

Look mate you can go about this two ways. You can either go to a dietician, pretty pricey, or do it your self.

I just eat healthly and sensibly. 5 small meals a day, lots of veg and plant based proteins, ie Soya, nuts, lentils, etc. When I do interval training I add lots of eggs, cheese and chicken to get the extra protein needed.

Things to cut out are obviously sugar, processed foods and sauces.

Here would be a typical eating day for me

Post ride meal, 04:00 am - 3/4 cup of Greek Yoghurt and a piece of fruit.

Breakfast, 07:30(ish) am - 2 scrambled eggs on some health bread, toasted

Elvens's, 11:00 am - 2 pieces of fruit

Lunch, 01:00 pm - Can of Tuna or a chicken breast with a baked potato/health bread and loads of green stuff.

Tea 03:30 pm - 1 piece of fruit

Supper 07:30 pm - Generally a small amount of what ever is going, normally I just add some salad to it.

The 2 key principles, I think, are to 1- Eat everything in moderation, 2- Drink at least 2 litres of water a day.

I am no dietician myself but I reckon that if you eat like that then you be super lean and strong in no time, providing you train of course :-)

I lost 4 kg in a month and that wasn't the idea. I eat healthy and at regular intervals. I use a protein shake after a training session.

Try to get a protein shake without fat added to it. That allready helps. Why i lost weight probably. I'm back on my old protein supplement and no weight loss last 3 weeks.

Cheers Guys!

Great feedback!

Looking forward to trying out a few variations and seeing what works for me.

All the best

Should a protein shake not make you put on weight, muscle that is. One would have thought so, especially if you are doing intervals. ie. high intensity excercise + protein = muscle gain = more weight

its butter than muscle loss = less power

Us skinnys need to drink as much protein as possible just to remain visible to the general population. If I don't keep my protein intake up I get so thin I need to lie down in the shower to get wet.

I am not arguing with that epoh, Witrot said that he ws loosing weight and I was just keen to know why if he was supplementing and doing intervals

Andrew - thanks, gives me an ideaWink

protein after training helps the muscles recover and would help with lean mass' date=' if you wanted bulk which cyclist don't you would have the protein shake before training.[/quote']

A good type of protein after a workout for example is something like the Biogen Pro Series Whey Protein Isolate Plus which is quickly absorbed by the body after intense training.

A teaspoon of Biogen L-Glutamine mixed in with it speeds up transport of the whey to the muscle for quicker recovery.

There is no real nutrional value per se, but it is certainly scientifically proven to stem catabolism after a mean workout. The best way to get your nutrients remains good ol' food just the way God made it!

Found some stuff at Dischem the other day called EVOX - tastes great and work well. Only thing is it contains HGH and I am not sure if this is legal.

Mux, ingesting chemically produced HGH is prolly looking for trouble, but with L-Glutamine they claim that it increases the body's natural ability to secrete HGH which is something naturally produced by the body anyway.

HGH (human growth hormone) assists in metabolising fat and helps to support new muscle growth. Sounds handy to me! Wink
