You will have to buy another pair in a month's time

I disagree. Ive had mine for a year, and still going strong. I love them.

anyone's mr price shoes still in one piece?

at R480 i am considering it.

i am fully aware that i will have to buy a new/better pair of shoes in 12months or so.

but im happy doing that.

what i dont want to do is spend alot of money on my first pair of mtb shoes, knowing they are going to take abuse (noob-abuse)

i'll rather abuse a cheap pair now - get use to spd pedals and clipping in - and then upgrade to a nicer pair.

After 8 months of regular and borderline reckless abuse and more falls than km's ridden.

I can honestly say that these shoes are one of the best investments i've made.

If you can call something this cheap an investment.

The soles remain stiff, the padding makes it very comfortable even on long rides.

Everything thus far remains intact and not a single thread has come undone.

I have to say that most of the apparel sold by mr price are of questionable quality.

Their padded lycra shorts are utter rubbish.

But these shoes are certainly the exception

Question - have they ever been wet or soaked in mud, washed and left to dry?

yep, soaked them on trails a few times.

Once through almost knee deep water with a muddy bottom.

I remember having to hold my bike over my head as I made my way through.

Was such a fun ride too. Realy went exploring that day.

Anyways I just washed them with a sponge and a little wash powder and let them dry in the sun

I have to agree, use the same shoes and find them very comfortable, no hassles when wet, have even had to resoak them to clean out the mud out of them after route 66 and emporers classic this year

This is very odd.. I had the complete opposite experience. Went through two pairs in two months and eventually returned then and bought elsewhere. The first pair broke where the cleat attaches to the shoe (pedals where not too tight, rather loose as I was still learning to ride clipped in) and the second pair started separating, sole from upper.

So ja, my experience not that good.

I have to say though my wife bought the newer hard sole pair and they seem to be a lot better, no problems so far.
