F1RST 2

Hi Guys .... anyone know anything about RST-Rapid Technology Shocks? Specific model description above.

I am about to buy a second hand bike with these on and apparently they are new high grade shocks. They seem very legit with remote lockout and everything!!! I have the option to take the old FOX Shocks that were on the bike. post-36119-0-04815100-1383830213_thumb.png

Any advice or insight?

If the Fox fork is still in good shape, take it. There's very little in the way of backup for RST in this country.

The main thing to look for as far as the Fox fork is wear on the stanchions just above the seals. If there's any sort of discolouration, leave them and take your chances with the RST. It's a reasonably capable fork, but a Fox in good nick will outperform it any day of the week.

It can be fixed, but the price will make your eyes water - depending on the model you're looking at about R 3 600 for new stanchions, bushings and seals...

Not even halfway there... a new Fox starts at about R 8 500. R 6 500 if you want the one that they've just recalled cos it falls apart.

Yellow Saddle used to service them in Jhb. They might well continue in their new CL set up. A mate and I recently serviced mine (Previous generation M29) by using an original RS Reba kit.

RST had been around forever. They make good forks but don't expect a BMW from a Toyota budget.

They also tend to weigh a little more.

My RST weighs 1520grams and your analogy is off unless you talking performance.

Toyota's are far more reliable than BMW.

I think what he means is don't expect high performance and comfort(compared to Fox) versus functionality at budget price(RST). Don't get me wrong - I've ridden RST for years before I could afford Fox and there is nothing wrong with them but Fox is the Rib Eye steak and RST the T-bone in my opinion

I am talking about performance yes. Also talking about the forks in general, not specific models. The RST I took off my Jamis weighs 3kg, has zero rebound control, tops out, only about 90mm of the claimed 130mm works.

The I know of the Titan model in 140mm travel that is smooth as butter and light weight. Most of my DH racing was done on RST forks. I could strip and service on in 30 minutes. Also upgraded all of them to be home responsive. Had 381s, 461DH, Mozo Pro, Mozo DH etc. Only other fork I had on the bike was a White Brothers UD 150.

Bottom line. RST makes a good product but don't expect Fox or Rock Shox performance.
