I'm not a fan of doing the Argus in a year that I've entered Ironman. Many miles of training (for 1 event) and a small crash at the Argus will bring that to an end. The batches at the Argus are too big and because everyone is going for sub-3, the group is usually very twitchy.

ito your legs, you will be fine. Argus is 110km in a pack. By then you will be doing 160km rides solo.

My suggestion is to do the Argus twice if you are there already. First lap to race and get a time, the second you can bail at red or black hill if it gets too crowded.

Do you need a special entry? That could be a good option. Race the first lap and ride with the mrs on the 2nd

HI JGR - have the Suunto Ambit 2. Love it but haven't tried any apps yet. Which power app are you talking about?

I think they are probably not accurate - too many variables from which they have to try calculate a power value... may try one out though for interest sake.

The app is available on movescount - essentially is uses an algorithm, much like the power cal. While the values might not be 100% accurate its the consistency of the data and relative values.

Whether it is 300w or x does matter as all you need to be concerned about is keeping at 300w or x.

I literally got it a few days ago and am still working out all the functionality

Yip had a look but there are like 4 or 5 different power apps. What's the name of the one you're using? Would like to try one out.

Luxembourg is in the top 4 towns to host the 2015 Ironman 70.3 World Championship.

Other 3 are Haugesund in Norway, Nice in the south of France and Zell am See – Kaprun in Austria.

Anyone know where next years one is?

Hmmm Nice would be nice....., have the possibility for cheap (free) accommodation nearby.....

All though from what I hear its hectic in summer holiday season, when do they normally hold 70.3 WC's

Could any of the guys with good experience with IM please give some advice with regards training.

I am planning on starting the attached training plan on 5 Jan (14 weeks out from IM) (its a 12 week program, but starting 2 weeks earlier to give myself a bit of a buffer in case anything unforseen comes up and intereferes with the training.

The program requires a fairly dececnt starting level of fitness which I am at right now and just maintaining until then...

The 16 hour program would do in a pinch, but I'd recommend a longer "long" ride and a few more days on which you do double sessions.

Obviously, it all depends on your goal. If you just want to finish, the 13 hour/week program would probably also suffice.

In my mind your level of fitness should be such that you should be able to do the following without any discomfort before the race:

  • 3.5 - 4.0km pool swim
  • 25km run
  • 150km cycle

Thanks, yeah was thinking that the program was a little light, had been planning on making the long rides longer, and also perhaps lengthening some of the runs, as the longest run on there is only 2 hours
