How to Strip Off the Paint and Polish an Aluminium MTB Frame

Could not agree more about the polishing process but i am sure I can change your mind about the ally though. How about a nice set of polished ally hats for some 380mm disc brakes???

Powder coat those hats... black.... :) but I am looking forward to them - black or polished...

I have nothong against ally - just ally road bike frames are not my thing - my old cannondale was a horrible ride - only found out that after it cracked and I bought a steel frame.... numb hands after 20k was ugly after 60k - frame just had no compliance at all, although it was super stiff with 2 inch diameter tubes - probably was fine in the big sizes, but small was no good.

I polished the frame starting 120 all the way to 1200 grit then buffed it using a compound... decided to rather have the rims done by a person who specializes in that field [emoji12]

There is a product called autosol...best for keeping the frame in mint condition...a lot hard work.

What compound and polish do you use for the frame?

This is a very old thread. Autosol polish works very well on bare aluminium. It does required some buffing though after you have polished off the Autosol. You can get if from most Auto parts stores like Midas etc.
