Jonkershoek - what a gem

Where is this DH track?

There is the proper DH track and then there is the "old" DH track. If you take the new double black down from the top, you cross the 3rd countour road into the second section of the Double Black through he forest, then cross the road onto the 2nd contour road, through another piece of forest, cross the 1st contour road and if you keep to the left you hook up on a part of the old DH track. At the bottom you go left over the piece of open area and then drop into Ace of Spades lower (think it is called Slangpad on Strava), through the forest over the bottom road into the bottom section and you pop out on the bottom road from the gate. Was the second stage of the WPDH Enduro in Jonkers

OK, I think we joined that DH just before it crosses the open area, then into the forest again which you say is the Ace Of Spades. Was quite nice. Lots of real fast berms and a hectic gap jump at the bottom, with a chicken run which I took.

Am I correct in my assumption? Don't think that ST was labeled on the iRide 3D map.

Edit: BTW, just before we found that ST we had to ride one hectic climb in the forrest. My boy tried a hill sprint on it but only managed to get 2/3 of the way up.

Rode Jonkers yesterday, for the third time. Super awesome. Going to try to find the Double Black next time. Did some of the Canary trails and then some on the other side of the valley (Fire Hut Trail, I think). Super awesome.

How does the Double Black compare in difficulty to the trails in Tokai? Is it similar to DH 1? Or more technical?

Moridin that assumption is right, I think, but yes some nice berms, at on stage the ST split, left is easier and right side gas a nice gap jump or 2, the gap jump with the chicken run is just on the other side of the road.

Not sure about the iRide map, have not looked at it for a while but I always got confused with that map. Riding there a lot helps a lot, but there are still bits I have not done.

Can't comment on how it compares with Tokai as I have never done Tokai, but the double black top is not bad and the bottom of the top run has some good rock drops while the lower part below the road is flowing.

Far more technical on the first 2 sections (the actual double black section - the rest of the DH is just black, as technical as DH0 and 2.

Thanks guys. Will definitely give the lower section a try next time. Sounds like I'll need to wait till I have a dual suss before I try the top section. Lets hope Father Christmas is good to me this year

Ja the double black is basically the top bit of that trail.

No, you can do the top section on a hardtail. Just smash your seatpost all the way down and take it slowly. Then go back up and try again.

You do the trails on any bike, its da skills that count....like the dude we saw yesterday....riding the bastard offspring of a road bike and full-sus.....drops bars and all....damn thing even had a bag-carrier at the back!!! Maniac! but ripping!

Will have to give it a try with my "All mountain Single Speed" :w00t: .

My geared bike has an integrated seat post, so lowering that is out of the question. Is a real pain on technical stuff, had a couple of shots in my sensitive areas coming down Vasbyt at speed already. Once I had to stop to regain my composure :cursing:

"He bust me pushing up the Double Black. lol." - But Omega showed excellent trail traffic awareness and allowed me through with a generous margin of maneuvering space, so full mountain karma to him.

You can ride all the way from the top on a ridgid, but you need to drop the saddle, and know what is coming. Makes for a good trail reconnaissance opportunity, you scan terrain differently and notice technicalities, because you are going so much slower and need to be more aware.

It does amp one and create some expectation for the next ride down such a trail, on the dual-sus, which should be back form the shop in time for this weekend. Joy.
