These are cool but need bolts at the end of the stem.

Thinking of one that acts as a spacer and then the mount is attached to that and extends under the bars to the front to mount the gps. Not sure if that would ever work?

That is an option. There are a few that sit on the top to place it out over the top of the stem. I'm guessing the issue there is the distance to get it past the stem vs rise and stiffness / weight.

Found this on Ebay. Goes between the faceplate. not exactly pretty.

This might be your best option, the one with the adjustable bolt to change angle above your stem.
