LOOK695 Posted December 14, 2013 Share So, it seems that the UCI wants to adopt new safety regulations for wheels in 2014 according to reports on bikeradar, cyclingnews etc. I wonder how this would affect chinese rims, amongst others. If I pitch up at a race and my wheels are not approved, will I be asked to go home? Will we be forced to buy only brand name wheels if we want to race with them? Will this benefit their bank balances more, or is there a real safety concern? What are your thoughts on this?
Cippo Posted December 14, 2013 Share They can make those stickers as well in China. I can see the big name manufacturers pressuring UCI to implement these rules.

Longbarn Killer Posted December 14, 2013 Share Other than the SA champs, I haver never seen any bikes being checked at SA races.
Cellar Posted December 14, 2013 Share So, it seems that the UCI wants to adopt new safety regulations It's high time they institute safety standards for all frames and equipment to be used at a certain level. They could get rid of that stupid weight limit then.
Capricorn Posted December 14, 2013 Share but there is a list of a non-standard wheels that pass the safety criteria, aka rupture test, and seems most of the big names with associated products are on that list.

They could get rid of that stupid weight limit then. Many of the pro bikes are in the 6.0kg region and they add weight to the seat posts to get them "legal".The problem isn't with those 65kg riders but when a 95kg guy buys that bike and it fails. Have a look how few pro riders ride carbon stems and bars. Chro Mo
