Dear tech gurus,

I have bought my first carbon MTB frame from a fellow hubber and am now in the process of swapping my groupset.

All my previous frames made use of the top pull functionality for the front derailleur, now i am faced with installing my derailleur (which i believe is dual-pull) in the bottom pull fasion.

My worry comes from the fact that the cable goes through the carbon frame and exits at an angle, would this not tend to eat away at the frame since this cable would be under tension most of the time? Or am i going about the installation wrong?

Please refer to the pictures for better idea of the problem.

Any help and advice would be appreciated.

usually carbon frames have direct mount deraileur fitting points. it looks like your deraileur is a clamp on? this could also be problematic.

It would not be ideal having the cable sawing away at the frame, you may well have a problem here.

Carbon frames do not need to have a direct mount front derailleur. Direct mount FD's are used when the rear suspension designs demands it.

If anyone else has this problem, i solved it by looking at a bike in my local shop. Simply cut open a piece of cable housing and remove the inner tube, place that tube through the hole in the carbon and guide the cable through.
