Hi All

We were cycling up the Hemel and Aarde trail going up on the black/Red route to the top of the Rotary way when we were stopped by an elderly gentleman and his wife in their car. They informed us that they were mugged on the black trail or close to the Fernkloof gate at the top of Rotary way by 3 guys. Cellphones, money and all jewelry were stolen and they were tied up with their boot laces. They obviously managed to escape unhurt, other than a few scrapes and bruises and were on their way to the police station to report it when they intercepted us.

Just a word of caution to all the mountain bikers in the Hermanus Area. Always try to ride with a buddy and take with as much as necessary, but as little possible. And be vigilant and on the look out for people that look out of place on the trails.

These scummy b45tards are ruining the place where we go to get away from it all, what is left after that?

Man now in Hermanus. The end is nigh

Sad stuff, seems like da Kaap is catching up with Gauteng

I just come here to have a vakansie and train a bit and this is what you get. How is the weather holding up there. I surely don't miss the cold at the moment, only some peace of mind and safe trails.

I am not sure it is any safer riding in a group.

Hi-jacking and muggings seem to happen to as many couples and groups as individuals.

You are also usually slower in a group, have more valuables, and thus easier and more attractive target.

I hope the couple are OK, but I will still be riding in that area, on my own, but just carrying some defensive means and going fast.

There was a spate of muggings up there a few years back - they were targeting tourists hiking higher up in Fernkloof and then escaping down Rotary Way. Sad to hear they're back... Hope the cops can catch the scum...
