Hi Mopkop,

Good 2nd hand will always beat new - if you know where it comes from. It is also a blast to go into a LBO and buy brand new.

I would go for the Cannondale and be sure of problem free riding for the next 5 years on a bike that you will always be prowd of.

Good luck, because at the end of the day it is a personel "thing".

Quick question..

BGfit recommends that I use a 56cm road frame, How big a difference is using a 54cm frame going to be?

I sat on a 52cm and that was waaaaaayyyyyy too small!

BGFit are usually pretty spot on. That said there is a lot to be said for 'feeling' right as well as fitting right. I should be spot on a M frame on a mtb but I just like the way a smaller frame works for me. Goes back to my BMX days (cos mtbs are just bmxs with gears!).

if a bike is one size to small or to big you can play around with seat position and/or stems to make it fit.

But more than one size I won't recommend.

take the bike some where and do a proper bike fit to see if it will do the job

Hey everyone

I'm looking at getting me a road bike but once again the choices are so flippen much

I am more into mountain biking, this will be to do the odd road event down in Cape Town. Heres the short list and pricing

Scott:

Speedster S20 R13999 (105)

***CR1 20 R20999(105) carbon***

No price on the CR1 30(Sora )

Merida:

Scultura CF904 R18899(105 ) carbon

Scultura 904 R13999(105 )

Giant:

TCR C3 R15499(Tiagra) carbon

TCR C2 R16899(Ultegra/105) carbon

Cannondale

CAAD8 6 R13499(Tiagra)

CAAD8 5 R14999(105)

Didn't get price on CAAD10

Specialized:

Roubaix SL4 Sora R18999 - Carbon frame

Allez Elite Tiagra R13999

***Roubaix SL4 sport 105 R23999***

***Tarmac SL4 sport 105 R23999***

***These two are "WOULD LIKES", OVER BUDGET!

What would you guys recommend? As you can see there is lots to choose and I am super confused!!!!!

Do I go for the Roubaix with a crappy Sora groupset but carbon "BEES-KNEES" frame? Really liking this but the grouset is very off putting

Or do I go Aluminium frame with 105 groupset with some change to do a wheel upgrade? Looking at the CAAD8 5 in this regard

The Giant TCR C2 looks like flippen good value, Carbon frame with good groupset.

Any other suggestions are welcome!

Thanks

Go for the giant great specs. great frame and value for money. You then dont have to upgrade at all. You have a decent bike good specs and it will last years.

You cant get the scott at that price, you are looking at around 20K for that bike now. Cyclefactory is advertising that price but has zero stock and cant get stock.

Really looking for anyone that has stock of giant in cape town :( Need a small and large)

The 2014 Elite model (carbon with 105) you should be able to pick up from 26k +- from Specialized concept stores. I think the Sport model as previously mentioned comes in about 23k.

Busy saving for one. I cant wait.

I almost went for the Tarmac , but so happy I was convinced to go for the Roubaix. I use it for Endurance training, as I primarily ride MTB.

Good luck with the saving !

I bought the Allez, the Tarmacs little Alu brother. Being a Mtb rider it is not the best bike for me, but the Roubaix is just incredible. Rode it for 5 minutes and realized this is the bike for me. Edited by Johny Bravo

Totally agree also rode the Allez and Tarmac, I think the Roubaix is actually more comfy than my MTB !
