Hi there Hubbers,

Have had problems with the freewheel hub for a while, LBS tried to extend the life, but its time to replace.

Question then, is this Ellsworth specific?

Looks like a novatec freehub that, serviced one last week that was in rough shape. Your LBS should be able to get a replacement one. I did notice that the inner bearings were replaceable.

Had a look on Novatec website, looks similar to their road hub - but not the sane I think

So I was wondering what really causes the "slip" - this is what happens:

- after freeing, short or long - when I start to peddle, there will be that loud "klang" sound, once/twice or not at all

- will also happen when suddenly increasing power

Besides the spring that is damaged, the bush is a little bit worn - what else needs to be replaced to fix the problem?

To conclude ...

LBS tried another spring, but I guess the freehub was just past its useful life ... and still didn't wanna work 100%

LBS did find out that a Loaded freehub fits perfectly, so will be getting one of those. At least don't have to fit the complete rear hub with new spokes ...

Seems that there are zero Ellsworth distributors & service in SA ...

Also if the pawls are worn/rounded, it will cause them to slip

It looks the same as a CycleOps power meter hub FWB. That looks identical to the FWB that I had on the PM that I've been using recently.

Thanks, will have a look as well.
