J Bornmann, is this why my bike is getting dirty?

Here's why: The bicycle, because it's on rubber tires, is not grounded, making the bicycle a static electricity machine. As the bicycle rolls along, it's constantly throwing off negative charged electrons, whereas the dirt along the ground is positively charged, and comes up to the bike to replace the discharge. The dirt is going to stick to whatever is sticky on the bike; of course the chain is the number one spot.

BTW, wierd and exspensive lube.

Been using this lube on the Santa Cruz for a while and it seems to work.

Have just bought myself some for the road bike.

This therefore explains why mtb'ers have to get off and push their bikes on uphills (it is earth the bike and prevent a build up on negative energy).

It als explains all the spectacular crashes in the TdF, the electro-magnet field is so great that the bike is "sucked" onto the ground.

It's hocus pocus. Had your bike been a static electricity machine, you would have got a shock each time you touch something off the bike. Some cars and some carpets have that tendency but I've never come across a bike that shocks. Also, we know that dirt is not statically attracted by the bike because of the dirt patterns we see.

In my youth I had a Humber dikwiel with a  Brooks saddle.  It had two rivets either side of the saddle nose, pointing horizontally. In those days I rode kaalvoet and with shorts. Riding under pylons used to produce a stinging sensation on my thighs at the location of the rivets, a little bit like an individual hair  being pulled. Only much later in high school did I realise that riding that bike under a pylon made me the secondary winding on a transformer.

If you swing it around, it looks kinda like a lightsabre. Lightsabre duels with fluorescent tubes are probably not advisable, though.
