I have never done any sort of endurance race and have been wondering how it works.

Sorry for the stupid question, but how exactly does a 12 hour race work? Does one do laps for 12 hours solid, are there breaks, etc.

Well you do as many laps as you can in 12hrs. You can stop at any time and for as long as you want ......

Sadly it would seem that there will be no riding for me so I'll just pass time on the couch again, might pop in to spectate a bit but that might just make me miserable so maybe not .....

Sorry I've just seen your enquiry. You are free to ride as long as you want to. You are trying to ride as far as you can for the 12 hours. There are two men and four men teams as well but one member only on the trails at a time. I often ride this as a two man (with my son) but we enter solo so we can ride together.

Did it last year. You do as many laps as u want, we take a gazebo, cooler, braai etc. if u tired u stop, if you wanna win, u carry on. The top guys go for 15+ laps then stop for the first time. I'm there for fun, I do 4-5 laps, then pull into the gazebo, chill out, then head out again...

Dunno wot the course is gonna be like after 2 weeks of rain, still rain predicted till Saturday. Will see

The trail is wet... but the type of soil allows for good drainage. I may take out the "GROVE" which is the new section on the eastern side of the trails between the new forest section... a bit of mud but will see how it goes. A shorter lap just means more often tempted to drink an Illy coffee....

Wendell, will there be food/colddrinks/coffee available?

Why you not riding NSBB?

Tony, you should know by now....an excellent provider of Bacon and Egg Rolls, Prego Rolls, Boerie Rolls and the normal cold drinks and the "Normal " free coffee table BUT illy Cuppochino on sale.....and then we have Nando, KFC, MUGG n Bean and Romans Pizza only 800m away.

Today's update...I rode the course last night...in the rain. We MAY need to shorten the lap if the rain continueS. I did think of tarr....but that may be out of place....the mud picked up on the majority of the trail just fell off the tyres. I was using Conti X-King on the front with a Mountain king on the back.....THE RACE WILL GO ON....THIS IS MOUNTAIN BIKING AFTER ALL..........AT IT'S VERY BEST.
