So I had a thought with the Argus just around the corner, I'm sure there are a lot of guys out there that dedicate a lot of time and a hell of a lot of cash to getting not just themselves but also their bikes sub 3 ready. But what I'm more interested in is the guys still riding "outdated" bikes but still going sub 3. The guys who can't (or maybe do but chose not to) buy the latest carbon piece of porn but on the day make the guy on the superbike with deep sections question why he dropped 100k! Lets hear about/ see those bikes here. I cannot unfortunately start because I haven't gone sub 3, but I do ride an old alu giant...

Not everyone that buys an all wheel drive vehicle likes going off road with it, nor does everyone that buys a super bike enjoy excessive speed.

They buy it because that can and that's what they'd like. I imagine the same with a bicycle.

I bought my full carbon bicycle because I wanted to, the same as my alloy one. They both have very different geometries and ride differently, and you only get what you put in, out of both....

last year i did a 3:37:57 from BB group on a steel 11kg plus SS.

i am in R group this year.. not good enough for a sub 3 sadly... but still going to ride a SS.

I plan on moving up groups with the goal of finishing in sub 3 on a SS.

the first sub 3 i did was on a De Rosa Wind in 2006.

i don't think its to difficult a task to do on a heavy old bike, i think its rather the comfort level whilst doing it.

ie you wont arrive at the end of the race totally wrecked.
