  1. https://www.flickr.com/photos/johnprolly/4951862421 If you were a cyclist back when the earth was flat you would know the term "drillium". People drilled holes in absolutely everything to save weight. Metal is quite forgiving, it'll buckle before it breaks. I wouldn't drill carbon though.
  2. http://www.sidionline.co.za/mtb/?subcats=Y&features_hash=O9465 For a big wide foot these are the bees knees... Sidi in a mega (wide) sizing.
  3. Ha ha, but my commuter a fishing rod so that might cancel out the tat
  4. The rep sucks but it's on my daily commute as well
  5. I'm in the same boat and would like to donate old kit to a good cause as well
  6. I ride SIDI Wide size for both mountain and road and my duck feet are very happy.
  7. At least you will now motorpace at 60 in the 50 zones as opposed to the current scenario of trying to catch a car at 80 in a 60 zone
  8. Yep, I have Rudy's with optic inserts and photochromatic lenses - will necver leave the house without them rain or shine, night or dark. love them.
  9. http://bicicletta.co.za/collections/tyres-and-tubes/products/tyre-road-wcs-race-slick-700x23 This should do the trick. they have 35c tubeless cyclocross tyres as well. Otherwise Sterling at Revolution Cycles stocks Spez 2bliss Cyclocross tyres as well.
  10. In my mind the Crux is closer to a road bike as it has very much the same geometry as the Spez Tarmac, but I have been known to be wrong in the past.
  11. I'm riding on a Spez Crux as my commuter of choice and loving it. The Crux is a true cyclocross bike, so a bit more aggressive in geometry than the diverge and other 'adventure' bikes, so it rides like a racing pony. Nearly as quick and responsive as my road bike, only lacking a bit on the top end speed. So fun on the tarmac. Offroad its a dream on 'grond pad'. I am a full 3 minutes faster than my on my mountainbike when riding the local 25km loop.
  12. I'd actually go with the R10k bike (or better still a R10k 2nd hand bike). A R5k bike will be no fun and they will never get hooked.
  13. I have the SIDI's and love them to bits - been a SIDI man for years as they fit my wide foot perfectly. BUT, if Spez works for you stick to Spez as they are awesome shoes and you know they will work for you.
  14. I'd say 50, but I have been known to look how I fared in the 40 plus group (they say I am a racing vet after all)
  15. This looks like a 1997 Paris FP if I'm not mistaken, but I think I am and will rather bet on an Angliru from around 2006 ish
  16. You can get a different freehub that will sort you out. It adds a couple of grams to the setup, but works like a bomb.
  17. Yep, when else will you be able to gun for a sub 1 argus? Although the "sub 3 club" might grow after this event. Will be riding even if it costs me R10/km (or R400/hr)....
  18. My view is if there is a cycle path, use it. I happily do 50 plus on the path, but I do slow down for other users.
  19. The giant concept store in Durbanville has them as well.
  20. Where are you based? Revolution in Cape Town have been servicing mine for 3 years now perfectly - old force and new red22
  21. I use the path at least 3 times a week and have done so for quite a while with no issues.
  22. The "then acting like its your fault" bit is deplorable but I have a question .... If you are approaching from behind at speed do you A: shoot past and not frighten the earphone wearer you are passing until you have passed or B: make yourself heard just in time for them to get a fright and swerve into you? C: slow down, ride their slip until they suddenly look at you as if you are a creepy serial killer?
