What a disappointing day of riding. The A bunch for the 75km got totally lost. This seems to be a problem at Tulbagh mtb cause it has happened before. Can't they get it right. When you have a split in distance there must be a marshal so all I got for my day's effort was a pair of socks.

The previous time it was the marshall (as with the Argus MTB) who caused the problem, so this time we decided to properly "try to" mark the route and use the marshals for major crossings. There was 2 signs to turn right, the first guy missed it and everyone else followed!

The Ultra and 75km ladies rode the same route before the 75km A batch and no one missed the signs, so really no excuse. Luckily there was no marshall to blame : )

Where the results? "You must be blind not to see the signs of having your eyes tested regularly!"

Swart Kat, no need to be a ass here, its very easy to miss a sign, it was extremely dusty and like Jorrie said, the first guys miss it everyone just follows, so no ones to blame these things happen, your result at a mountain bike race is the sum of all its parts, whether the calculation works in your favor or not

whenever i see a topic like this, all i want to say is 'move to england, what its like not being able to do marathon anywhere because of land laws and then complain". you lot are so spoilt here, I'm sure its very frustrating going wrong, i would have been also but its one race.. move on to the next one and be thankful that you can because you have so much choice. I also rode the 75km route and it was fine, there was one sign near the end that had nothing on it but aside from that i thought the marking was very clear. it is your responsibility to look at the signage so really, you can all only blame yourselves.

*sorry but I'm moving back home in may and I'm dreading it.

I rode this event and saw guys go the wrong way at the marker and shouted to them but they kept going and the rest of us went the right way.The route was so hard for me personally but the markings were not the problem in any way.

Cant understand how you all went wrong when everyone else in the 75km from the Elite Ladies to Men A-C went the right way. To me its not the markings that were wrong here, its you.

It's very simple to miss an arrow when you are taking strain, struggling to concentrate, having a conversation with a mate. On the Ultra yesterday after the 60km point there were times I started doubting myself "did that arrow really point right" but that was merely me being paranoid cause they were so far apart.

I must admit the markings for the first 60km were perfect & spot on, it was clear & decisive, especially at the splits. At one point I latched onto 4 riders from the A batch in the 75km race, but knew at some point we would have to go our own ways. Luckily I got dropped before that moment came, who knows i might have probably ended up doing the shorter route.

I was also one of those who missed the marking as I just followed everyone else and there was a lot of us. The problem was that it was very dusty and we were bunched up so sometimes you couldn't even see the any marker. Also I don't know if it was said at the start line but I think we were supposed to follow the red makers and we were following yellow. If it was said at the start then the speaker system was not great as in the middle of the start chute you could here nothing.

So, here's a bit of an interesting twist. I received my results via sms and verified it on MTN site yesterday, and they've adjusted my time taking into account (I assume) the A bunche's detour, the winner Nico Phitzinmyer (excuse the spelling) together with most of the leading results were also adjusted by a wopping 1 hour exactly...So why would the organisors do this (unless its an error by the timing system) if it was the riders mistake? Were that sign not perhaps bumped over by one of the Elite ladies taking the turn, and if Nico was in the front, surely it would've been easy for him to see the marker (had it been there) Controversy controversy. ..who will really know, imo if you change something, you've accepted blame..
