If the Epic has a lot of sand riding I've heard the SmallB8 will not do, some guys used them during the Lighthouse to Lighthouse and was not impressed. Most ppl will use the Phytons or Racing Ralphs again and ofcourse the CrossMark.

I'm taking 5 sets with, gonna see which I feel like running on the day.

A set of Spesh Captains

A set of Spesh Fast Trak's

A set of Bontie Dry-X's

A set of Crossmarks

A set of Small Block 8's

Thinking of taking some Python's with as well, just in case.

Titus how are you going to make the decision of which tyre to choose from ?

It seems the more choice you have the less chance there is of making the right choice.

6 makes of tires to choose from each day? this is going to be interesting

Have a look at the Conti Mountain Kings  2.2 or Conti Racing Kings if you can find them.

Maxxis also have to new tires out. The Monorail and Ridgeline.

The phytons will be ideal for that hard roads towards Calitzdorp, Riversdal en Swellendam, Bredasdorp.

There is not a big % technical or single track stuff on the Epic.

TUBELESS is more important.. !!!

A lot of HARD gravel roads, it will roll as smooth as a babie's bum.popeye2008-02-29 01:36:29

I have not had the privelage of trying out the spez fasttrak lk 2bliss, but from all the people that have them I have only heard good things.

They roll very fast, are strong and lite for a 2bliss (80g lighter than the crossmark lust)

And at R275 per tyre it is worth it.

Phytons, are they similar in tread to the RR's? The TT's i used in 2006 just didn't do it for me, they lasted but just didn't seem fast, could have something to do with my legs by stage 4LOL Damn Tyres are quite pricey.....

I think Titus and Mintsauce can give you more technical detail on the 2, its a soft compound tire, will last the Epic.

A lot of overseas guys come to the Epic with Racing ralphs, but they cut on the sidewall.

Dont confuse or get confused, lots of people will have lots of views.

Asked GrootLem, he already did 5 Epics, he also ride Phyton lights. Will be my 3rd, also phython lights... UST..

And never had a puncture...

Dean @ C-Lab JHB got me on a set of Maxxis CrossMark LUST for last year's Epic. From one month before Epic, to 5 months after, no punctures... Good advice and a good tyre!

I'm gonna be basing my descisions on what Simon Gear says and the flip of a coin, and no, I buy my tyres, I just have a rubber fetish.
