Does anybody have any knowledge of any trails/rides/routes around Elandsberg in Tankwa Karoo national Park. Any suggestions/ideas would be welcome. First time visiting the park and would like to go out and get in some k's while enjoying the environment.

Thanks

I've never been to Tankwa park but I often use Strava when I go to more remote places like this (where there are no nice mtb websites with convenient route maps)

See if there are any segments in the area, and then on the segments you can see what individual rides people did in the area - give you a good indication of the popular routes in the area combined with a handy map  ^_^

Edit - But I have been up nearby Ouberg Pass - now there is a nice challenge if you feel like some climbing torture

That is one i definitely want to do... nice solid 820m of climbing in ±10km.

What did you get on your strava?

I've ridden there. You need to stick to the roads, but they are so quiet is already an adventure. This was in April, might be another story in flower time

We went up gannaga pass, it's well worth it, even if just to see the hand built retaining walls. If you're really organised, arrange with the lodge on top.

Sounds about right

If you really are up for a challenge do it as part of the Trans Karoo MTB race - then you already have 190km in the legs by the time you get to Ouberg...

Spot on, I always use Strava search when going to new or "remote" places. Works a treat cos someone would have uploaded routes

The Ouberg and Gannaga Passes are both worth riding up and down. Beautiful climbs and views and blow your hair back descents. Just be aware of the odd 4x4 around the sharp corners and know that there are a few big drop offs. The main roads in the park are often very corrugated and that makes riding painful. Give it a go anyway. The smaller 4x4 routes in the park are all rideable and the closest you will get to single track. Remember not to go too crazy, because if you break something in a remote area, it could become tricky. The Elandsberg cottages are very very good.
