the Gravel Travel broken bike saga continues, Olympic just called to say I need new brake pads and "there's something wrong with your back wheel are you sure no-one has sabotaged your bike". Something to do with the cassette spinning. I can feel the money draining out of my bank account already

So glad I decided not to ride. Already had my number board, but turned around and handed it back to the lady.

 

Must admit, it was with a heavy heart I watched the guys ride away. But was I glad I decided to stay behind when I saw them return and hear all the tales of their exploits on the trail.

My repair bill is a few cents short of R4000. Lots of broken parts. Ad the entry fee for the race, and other expenses, eish. June is going to be a long month, no more wet races for me. To be fair I am going from XT to XO rear derailer, quite a bit more expensive.

Unfortunately its only insured against theft, or if its damaged while being transported to the venue. Otherwise my premiums are waaay to high. I own 3 bikes. Baked beans and toast for me.
