Bike/Pedestrian paths in Jhb?

What, a painted line demarcating a dedicated cycle lane on a stretch of road?

Until the taxi industry manages to control its own we can forget about it.

My Favorite kind of pie, the "in the sky variety"

I like how they refer to an integrated transport system, when i still dont have an answer from rea vaya to find out if i can take my bike on the bus...

I wonder if they have considered the potential increase in bike theft and bike jackings on these routes and parking areas...

I commute from randburg to sandton 3 times a week.

These would be awesome , especially if they can be seperate from the normal roads.

When it happens is another story. But atm there is quite a alot of payment that can be used

If they can only be maintained a bit more and legalized for cyclist to use them this would help immediately.

But the pedestrians I have encountered in the last 3 months has all been more than happy to make space, bar 1 or 2 individuals.

I have done some commuting on my MTB between Randpark Ridge and Houghton. It wasn't too bad but there is one other problem to address: Joburg is a pretty hilly city. If you have to cycle even 15km to work, chances are you will be drenched in sweat in the summer months.

Few companies have shower facilities wear employees can freshen up; even fewer have secure bicycle parking.

But as others have commented already, an open patch of tar on a Joburg road by default belongs to taxis and morons who think they are more important than any other road user. My other concern is that this will be like the Gautrain and compromise of limited routes that benefit few people.
