For this large feature set it almost makes more sense to just mount your phone on the bars and run an app since it requires the phone in any case.

prefer to not know whats happening on my phone when riding.

I have a ringtone set for calls from a particular person, the rest can wait.

I am of the opinion that less is more on a bike computer. The 510 is a great mix of good tech and not being over the top.

I have the 800 I don't even use half the functions and I also thought it was way too big.

If I had to do it again il prob buy the 510, it covers all my requirements as a cyclist, although I do like the gear indicator on the 1000,

The tex t and call feature...hmmm I'm not sure it's such a good idea, would it not be a risky distraction.

sweet!!! the strava pro's will rejoice

Garmin Connect will soon be introducing the ability to create segments, and with it, the ability to race those segments in real time. Segments will work similar to Strava segments (but are not compatible with Strava segments)

Garmin Connect tracked me at a 346km/h max this weekend... from the same file I uploaded (from a Garmin device!) to Strava and SportTracks, both rendering more "human" speeds. You'd have guessed GC would have been the one to get it "more right" than the rest!

Imagine how much I'll trust their segments. Don't think they can improve what Strava already has - plus the community is already established. But I see even the Discovery upload thingy now has segments.

Costs the same as a top end smart phone, same size etc. There should be an app that can do the same, then everybody can save 350 odd grams. That is the difference in weight between my Dura Ace clinchers and something expensive like Ligtweights, or the difference between a carbon and aluminium frame.
