I've searched around. But I just can't bring myself to pay for hope as much as I'm sure they're amazing. Maybe I'll still convince myself. Have been looking at the Dartmoor stuff for instance this http://dialdbikes.co...e-rear-hub.html since the prices are good. And on paper they seem good but the have no rep to go on. Also they seem to be having stock problems. There's also rapide but they also don't have stock and they seem a bit more xc geared, xc makes me nervous sometimes since it seems to sometimes be code for "we've carved away all the strength on this hub so don't drop off a curb or you might crack something". Are hopes the only option when it comes to cartridge bearing hubs?

I think you already know the solution to XT hubs maxxis.... Superstar FTW ;)

Look at some WTB i23 or i25 rims too...good rims and good value

Yes, get the i23s while they're still around. Fantastic and affordable rims. The Distributor is starting to bring in the WTB KOM instead of the i23s so, unless you get them from overseas, they're probably going to be scarce soon.

Who do I get in touch with for the i23's I'm loathed to fight import issues. Hence I'm trying to get my parts locally. Also it seems like the right thing to do. The i23's are pretty much perfect for my needs. I looked at them awhile back infact but passed as I couldn't figure out how to get a set here.

Absolutely. Cost effective and dead sexy in both the audio and visual sides.

Std Superstars on my SS and it is really not a "loud hub"

Superstar Trizoid rear on my MOTTO and that baby is a Band unto it's own .... do enjoy it the sound though for some bazaar reason.

International Trade imports them, get your LBS to order.

International Trade (http://www.intltrade.co.za/) supply WTB rims locally. Your best bet is to give them a call and ask who may still stock the i23 in your area.

EDIT: 2 minutes slow ;)

Nothing wrong with XT hubs, and servicing them is easy peasy, seriously.

No, nothing wrong with them they are good hubs. But the superstars are nice and bling, and with cartridge bearings they can accept most of the different axle standards. Bought new the SS's will probably be cheaper, or at least the same price as XT's. Bought a pair of evo's for the paltry sum of R1200 not too long ago

yeah, the SS Evo's are not nearly as loud as the hope pro2's, but you can hear they are there.

With all those colours you got going on there I also would only take it out occasionally in the dark

I have heard that Spank's new magnetic drive hub is about as obnoxious as you can get. Think Hope times 4

Okay so rather sheepishly I think I'm changing direction with my build.

The story goes like this. I went to mankele for the avalanche with my XC scott and got my teeth rattled out but I had such a good time I'm feeling like I have to have a front end on my bike that can handle that sort of abuse at least once a year, more if I can find more enduro events to attend. But I'm concerned that my SID even if extended to 120mm will struggle to survive and keep up and it will only be my fault for forcing it to bomb down hills when really its not meant for that. And yes I realise that full sus would be a good idea but I'm young and poor so HT just seems like the right way to go.

So first I thought maybe I'd just accept that I'll have to be gentle with it and then I did a little googling and found a Rockshox Sektor RL dual position coil that would allow it to be a slightly heavier xc bike at 110/120mm and a hooligan bike at 140/150mm with chunky tyres. This seems like a grand idea since I reckon I can get over it being 500 grams heavier. Also its just likely to last longer and frankly it being adjustable seems like it could give me a wolf in sheeps clothing that I can race the occasional cross country event and still keep up and have a good time at enduro style events. Frankly this seems like the best of both worlds. But this then brings me to the point of what do I do with my SID fork. I am seriously considering selling it but I thought I'd ask some communal opinions first. Perhaps my thinking is flawed anyway.

What do you folks think? Cut my loses now and get the heavy bullet proof wolf in sheep's clothing fork or love the one I'm with which lets be honest is an SID so it's still a really nice fork. Hopefully some people are still following this thread despite it being dormant for months. Incase anyone is wondering, I've got my cranks, shifters and rear hub sorted to date. Things have slowed because I basically maxed my credit card (I have a small limit) and haven't recovered - don't judge me.

I would sell the SID and get the Sektor. I ride a Sektor (110/150mm) on my Enduro bike and it is excellent.

I also have a hardtail Ragley which is similar geo to the Cotic with a 140mm Fox fork which I love and could handle most of SA Enduros.

From the Cotic catalogue:

Geometry with commitment! Minimum 100mm travel forks, and handles great all the way up to 140mm travel
