I am a tad confused. I have a set of 29er Syncross MTB wheels on my MTB. When I replace the wheelset and put on my Stans Arch EX my rear QR skewer doesn't want to lock the wheel in place. You can turn the end nut of the axle until it bites onto the hanger and when you apply the lever clamp on the other side it is really tight but no tension on the axle itself.... dunno if I am explaining right?

Basically the axle does not want to lock the wheel in place securely with the fear it may just fall out. Surely you cannot apply so much pressure that you battle to release the clamp?

Is the spring load damaged in the clamp head perhaps?

Front wheel is a thru axle, rear wheel is normal quick release skewer. Hubs are Hope2 hubs on ZTR Arch EX.... Just strange that I have used the wheels before and no prob. I will acquire a new skewer and see if that helps??

check the rear drop outs where the axle sits. I've seen scott scale carbon bikes with qr rear that the drop out has ground away from the axle sitting in there and coming a bit loose and moving around.

Try the qr from the other set of wheels and see if that works.

I'd take the wheel out and try fit it again slowly/carefully, something is not sitting right, are both the end caps on the Hope hub there and fitted properly

I have the same hubs and you do need to crank the qr handle quite tight to make them clamped firmly, not easy at all to release the handle
