Hello cyclists

The University of Cape Town is conducting research into carbohydrate and fat metabolism during cycling in athletes on high fat diets (or the Noakes diet) versus the more standard cycling diet (high carb).

If you are intersted in participating in research, learning some interesting things about how your body works and doing a peak power output test this may be for you.

Specifically we are looking for athletes that meet the following criteria:

Males between the ages of 30 and 44;

Well trained and able to ride at a relatively high intensity for two hours;

Eat a diet that is HIGH in carbohydrate and LOW in fat;

Able to get to the Sports Science Institute in Newlands, Cape Town on 5 occasions for the testing.

For more details you can contact me at wbschr002@myuct.ac.za or check out: http://essm.uct.ac.za/glucose-production-during-exercise-in-athletes-on-a-very-low-or-high-carbohydrate-diet/

Thanks,

Chris

Details of duration, length of time for the check ups ect.

Visit 1: 2.5 hours - includeds dietary analysis and peak power output

Visit 2: 2.5 hours - 2 hour steady state ride at 55% of peak power

Day prior to visit 3: Come to Sports Science to collect labelled water and give blood sample

Visit 3: 5.5 hours - 2nd dietary analysis, tracer infusion, muscle biopsies, 2 hour ride

Visit 4: Oral glucose tolerance test (used to measure glucose tolerance and insulin resistance)

Hope that helps,

I would have put up my hand for this... unfortunately i live in JHB and getting to the institute 5 times might be a costly matter... unless you pay for the flights :whistling:

Unfortunately not. There is token R150 per visit.
