hi all

ok so after a ride today i noticed bubbles in my front tyre, they we under the tread in the middle, so i took the tyre off and noticed air bubbles between what seems to be the rubber layers? and the tyre seems to be coming apart from the inside, its the full tubeless ikon version, on the front wheel

this shouldnt be happening right?

variables for this

sealant - stans sealant was still present in tyre

used bombs - no

age - 6 months more than 70 % tread still left

leaking air - no

back wheel - seems fine no bubbles visable

bubbles seen in photo are sealant coming out the bubbles on the inside of tyre.

Hi there

I have been riding with Maxxis Icons now for quite a while and am very happy. Maybe yours is a dud. Take it to where you bought it, maybe they will replace? MTB tyres has gotten way to expensive for this to happen and not take it up with the suppliers.

I also got this after 18 months. I think it is old puncture holes that causes the sealant to move into the layers of the rubber causing bubbles. The Ikon is a great tire that I found to outlast a RacingRalph by x3. All my Ikons have lasted more than a year for me so far.

a known problem with Maxxis tyres. Your pictures illustrates the problem quite well in that it seems as if linear lacerations appear on the inner layer after a while and then sealant seeps into the next layers until bubbles appear on the outer layer of the tyre.

Ask your LBS to send the tyre to the Maxxis agents for comment.

Hi, been using Icons on back wheel for a while now, last year had the same problem, bubbles under tread. Other than the one problem no complaints. I did contact the distributor and they were willing to do an exchange for me.

I rode IKONS for three years and never had issues except for about 3 punctures, but tried out the Racing Ralphs and wont ever go back they better in every way, maybe see if you can do a exchange deal with cwc & get a set of RR's

My Ikons did the same, it formed a bubble between the layers. But a Mtb tyres should last you a year then I replace them anyway so for that 12 months I give them hell and don't bother trying to extend their live.
