Carrera MTB

Hey guys,

 

Anyone know anything about Carrera? I have a friend who has been keenly awaiting the arrival of his first MTB from the UK - due to arrive with his brother-in-law next weekend I believe. I've been dying to get him involved and while he's out here the English brother-in-law will want to ride too I'm sure. I asked what bike it was and he said it's a Carrera - no other details except hardtail in 650b (he let the bro-in-law choose for him based on his greater experience).

 

Thing is that the alarm bells rang slightly when he told me the cost - in the region of 200-300 pounds. Now I'm curious to know whether we get ripped on our bikes the same way as cars in SA or are we dealing with an entry level bike likely to give him a lot of troubles?

 

Looking to take them to N Farm to deflower his new ride.

As far as I know they are good bikes and a good brand, the road bikes, I had one in the past. A little bit unknown in SA, but you'll see them far and few between.

They used to make some decent BMX's, can't see them making a bad MTB.

My daughter has a Carrera Blast, its a great bike for what I paid (170 Squids), tough bikes and they do vary in spec...

My First Mountain Bike was a Carrera Banshee X, full Sus All Mountain bike. I sold it last year and not a day goes by when I don't miss it. Halfords sells Carrera exclusively in the UK and they benefit from their purchasing power in terms of components. Having said that, 170 pounds does not get you a lot of bike over there. I bought an entry level hard tail from Halfords a couple of years ago for around 700 pounds and it is roughly equivalent in spec to a 10 to 12 grand bike here.
