Hi guys

I've noticed it's very oily/wet around the piston shaft of my wife's FOX RP2 on her Cannondale Scalpel 3.

Is this normal.

At the same time My wife noticed it's a bit oily, residue... at the top of the fork.

Can't think either is normal. less than 1000km on the bike.

I have noticed you get a little bit of oil on the RP23 after a couple of rides, wipe it down and see how it goes. Has it been serviced lately? If so prehaps too much oil was used on assembly? This is mine after a quick 15km ride to make sure all is ok after its service yesterday.

Haven't been serviced since bought, under 1000km,

Haven't been washed couple of rides either... so can be a build up that I've just washed away all previous times.

Thanks.

And the Lefty? The oil residue?

Try to wipe down the fork and shock before every ride, it makes it easier to pick up any problems like oil leaks. I cant comment on the Lefty but I think the basic air canister service on the RP23 is every 40 hrs or something(easy to do if you are handy. Just need a pillow pack of Fox float fluid or similar oil) , services are based on hours over KM's on forks and shocks. The full service is around 200hrs or less depending on your general riding conditions and the state of the unit (and has to go to a repair centre). I tend to do mine a bit earlier (air can service) as I like to find problems before they turn into bigger problems!

The shock needs an air sleeve service. The oil should be in the main pressure chamber. You could have a little oil in the second chamber, depending on who serviced it but that much oil is escaping through the main seal. Can't tell what is leaking on the fork - could be from the pop lock or the fork. Dont know what the service interval is on that fork but 1000km probably relates to about 80 hours, depending on the rider.

With regards to the fork. How do you store the bike. I've seen on cannondales website they state not to store the bike hanging from its front wheel as oil might leak. Rather hang it from the back wheel

Not saying you stored it this way.

Meentb... You been looking in my garage? will store different.

Had a look, 40 hours, 500km, so right on the expected curve.

Will wipe it down and give it a ride or 2 and see if it's back.
