Im stoked, thx to Clement, I got a quote of R120 for the set and the guy told me I can bring it Wednesday and have it back Friday!

Awesome!!!

Do you have to take of the black anodizing first?

I have a silver XT crank I wouldn't mind doing.

One thing to consider, once polished it will be raw aluminium and if you live along the coast line it will oxidise. I live in Durban and I have to wipe mine down after every ride to get rid of any sweat that may cause oxidisation. There is a guy in Joburg who says he can naturally anodize and keep the shin. I still need to try a sample out.

I have a friend in PE who polished his 105 shifters. Every so often when they start to look hazy (from the oxidation), he gives them a good wipe down with brasso.

The guy I chatted to regarding the anodizing is: PJ Prinsloo.

His work address is 5 Albatross Street, RhodesField, Kempton Park.

His Email is. splash.anodizing@gmail.com

May be worth trying out.

Nope, I told him its a black XT crank and he just said no probs, bring it in, will save me much more in time and money than R120!

I'd bet they will lose a lot of the shine. Anodising creates tiny pores in the surface of the anodising into which the dye goes if you want it coloured. Anodising tends to give a more satin finish.

but maybe there is a way that I am not aware of :)

My shoes usually rubs some of the paint off the crank arms (looks really crap), think I will try and polish the arms as well. Will look a lot better and probably stay looking a lot better for much longer. I read that there is some kind of polish you can use (will have to find the thread) that helps with keeping everything shiny for longer, and if the shine goes a lot easier to make shiny again.

Autosol is brilliant metal polish. We use it on our plastic injection moulding surfaces, it keeps a great shine.

I didn't know you got a clear powder coating. I did have my polished cranks clear coated using automotive quality clear coat, problem is if you get a small scratch the oxidisation happens under the clear coat and causes more hassle than its worth.

Thats the reason I want to do it as well, black crank show scuff marks and chips easy
