RocknRolla Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Word of mouth is probably the most common for me. Is the question related to deciding which event to do for the first time? or throughout the year? There are some events i have done once, and will never do again, and then there are events I will return to each year because of the previous year's experience. I also like to read on the hub after events to see what the general feel was.
suzieQ Posted May 15, 2014 Author Posted May 15, 2014 Word of mouth is probably the most common for me. Is the question related to deciding which event to do for the first time? or throughout the year? I agree in that if you have been and its great, you will keep going back. I believe most people attend races that they have heard about from mates or have great prestige, so my theory is to make the event as awesome as possible for those who do attend and improve each year. I feel that flyers and adverts are unnecessary and that why I am trying to get a better idea. The proceeds from the event go to a charitable cause so we dont want to spend money unnecessarily.  Thanks for your thoughts. I appreciate it Regards Sue
shaper Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Pretty much what RocknRolla said. Word of mouth. The feedback on the hub to a race is also good as if I did not do the race and there was a good vibe and comments, then will consider putting it on my list for next year. suzieQ 1

RocknRolla Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 In terms of promoting a new race, it is important to get on the digital platforms.i think the hub reaches a large target market. If you look at the Delta Dash, it was great to see the new trail being cut wih sneak peek photo's and obviously getting people to ride the sections and help to spread the word. The area where the race takes place is very important. If you tell me there is a race at northern farms, and I know the area, I will pass it over purely because I am not too fond of the place, thus venue and quality of tracks are of great importance. You can also get the various clubs to mention the event in their club communication, as this further reaches more cyclists perhaps not online on the hub, or on twitter etc. suzieQ 1
