Need advice.

My rear brakes makes a horrible squeaking sound. Not the metal on metal sound.

It also didnt brake well and you get this vibrating sensation when hitting it hard.

I took it to the lbs cos I wanted it changed. The okes then took it out and said there are plenty of pad left but it was glazed. he removed it, sanded it a bit to remove the glaze and took brake cleaner and cleaned the disc, the problem seem to be solved, for awhile.

I had to change the fronts and decided to put a new set of pads in the rear. I cleaned the disc as well.

Took it for ride and just when I thought the problem was resolved, it haunts me again, albeit not so bad.

Anyone had similar issues? Please let me know

Dammit, I have the same issue on my new bike SLX brakes. Giant anthem X. Going to keep an eye on this one.

Great article, Im actually excited about giving this ago this weekend.

I got shimano pads and brakes.

Come to think of it, I didnt do any 'braking' in procedure when I first got the bike and I actually messed it up from the start. I was guilty of pressing the rear brakes lightly as well. This wasnt the case with the front brakes cos I slammed that harder from the start.

Now why wasnt I told this from the start? Lol, you learn all the time

Thanks, will update once I gave it a go

Don't get oil on your pads or rotors. This includes touching them with your fingers, which have just enough oil on them to make your brakes start squeaking.

If you do, clean them with rubbing alcohol and a clean rag, bed them in again and continue.

So....what worked for my squeaky grabby brakes.

1.) Hit the brakes, pads everything with brake cleaner.

2.) Took off calipers, removed pads, took of rotors.

3.) Reset pistons as per the pinkbike article.

4.) Hit the pad's with brake cleaner again, wiped them down, lightly sanded them to get back to some good braking surface.

5.) Hit the rotors with brake cleaner and wiped them down, they looked good so just cleaned them about 3 times.

6.) Put the calipers pack, hit them with brake cleaner again.

7.) Put on some latex gloves and stuck the pads back in.

8.) Put wheels back after putting rotors back on, aligned the calipers to get rid of rubbing.

9.) Did a few hard stops till I felt the brakes bite, hit them with brake cleaner again.

10.) Now have squeak free brakes, all grabbiness gone, working great.
