Hunter is immortal. He deserves all the credit for his win in the TDF.

Boonen wins when McEwen is not there' date=' Ullrich would have won as many tours if Lance was not there. I would have won a local league ride if 90% of the riders were not there!

he's among the best in the world no doubt' date=' but pure class would have won a stage in his first TDF. [/quote']

But his first TDF he was riding for phonak's main druggie... do u still think he could have won a stage as a domestique?

Amazing how a team leader has to use drugs but the rest dont and they work harder than him.........doesnt make sense to make a weaker rider the team leader......

Phonak if I am corect has one of the highest positive test ratios in the ProTour.

Are we off DG now? If so shouldnt we start a thread called RH and the TDF near misses?

Your not wrong Colonel...

As they say in cycling "the sin is not in taking, its in being caught"

I have a great deal of respect for a particular SA pro. We rode together on the same team over a decade ago, and he went to race abroad. But he eventually came back. I asked him why he came back, and he said "I didnt want to use the medicine...so I'll settle for racing here, with a clean conscience"

I leave it there...

Given the circumstances of Hunter's TDF stage win' date=' nobody can argue that had Boonen not crashed, Hunter would still be looking for that win. But he did crash, and the circumstances allowed Hunter to win, only just. But win he did.
I would not say Hunter is pure class on the bike, he's among the best in the world no doubt, but pure class would have won a stage in his first TDF.

ummm Boonen did not crash..he was way out of position he was behind the crash..so he was out of it to begin with...

Food for thought here.....

Why did NOBODY from Phonak get decent contracts after that TDF even though somehow the non climbers managed to climb at the front of the group over the biggest climbs ??????

Why did just about every person on that team get caught or implicated in a drug scandal ???????

One day the cat will be let out the bag. Untill then I will limit my comments about Proffesional cyclists to an absolute minimum.

1. You CANNOT Ride the Tour without Drugs.

2. No Rider would want to start the tour without drugs.

3. Your team will not allow you to start the tour without drugs.

While doping has been under the spotlight all over the world in all sports, I can Guarantee you that nobody has stopped or slowed down. New tests mean new drugs. Cyclists are at the forfront of doping. The UCI knows it, WADA knows it and the teams know it.

IT WILL NEVER STOP !!!!!!!!!!!!

No Athena, not bitter...just correct.

Racing Hart, right team, wrong rider. But ML is a good friend and shared a similar sentiment...GreyOwl2008-03-11 23:30:49
