I'm not making this up, CWC have these sales all the time on the Hub, I'm sure you know what I'm referring to, where you ask for something to go on sale. I've seen stuff, actually I've asked for stuff as well, where the "regular" price would be inflated as soon as the item pops up on their home Page as a sale item. Find me an IT expert that can show this and what I'm saying will be proven to be the truth. Or CWC can come clean and admit to doing it.

I'm actually amazed that no one else has raised this before.

I am still on the fence. Give some screen shots proving it

At the end of the day, research your prices and know what's a decent price. Ignore the smoke and mirrors. You're never going to stop some sellers from performing this practice.

I think a worse practice is where large retail chains bring in special 2nd grade stock to enhance their big "sales"

Very well said. At the end of the day you are handing them your cash at your own discretion. You know if you walk into Cajees you need to negotiate, when you buy insurance your broker needs to shop around, you don't just buy the first car in the Autotrader you see.

At some point in the sales cycle we as the consumers need to take responsibility for our actions.

As for the retailers doing what you accuse them of, report them to the ASA if you believe they are breaking the law. If they are not, let them trade as they have always done. Retail is NOT a paradise of profit on these scales, especially not with hubbers as customers.

Every time you go into their shop and push them for discount (which you are entitled to do) they need to make that margin up somewhere and raise base prices (which they are entitled to do)

I really do not believe that there is this advertisement conspiracy to screw us.

Most of these shops have been around for ages, are owner managed and people put pride and their names on it. CWC has been around for ages, shops that do more harm than good don't tend to stay open that long.....
