Been out of cycling a few years.

I used to ride Rocket Ron, Racing Ralph or Crossmarks but they are at their end of life now.

What tires are you guys using for normal XC type of riding nowadays?

(As you can see, I prefer the lighter/faster tyres as I mostly do under 40km)

I can recommend the Specialized Fast Trak Control tyres in 29' (under R500). Don't get the s-works versions, as the sidewalls are super thin.

Complete cyclist in bryanston had a good range last time I checked (2.0 & 2.2 Fast Traks). The Specialized Concept Store in Melrose Arch was similarly priced but out of 2.0 width when I bought mine a month or two back. I put the 2.2 on the back and it was fine - in fact a HUGE improvement over the factory-fitted Ground Control 2.1. One of the shop guys told me to always get the CONTROL version. http://www.specialized.com/za/en/ftb/mtb-tires/competitive-xc-tires/fast-trak-control

Maxxis ardent front .crossmark rear or geax saguaro rear will give plenty problem free km and cheaper than the other snakeskin tyres that are excellent but expensive

Rode Sani2c on a fast trak ® / ground control (F) combo and was very happy - not a single problem. did the conversion myself and had no problems seating/inflating the tyres. Can be done with a proper pump and some sweat.

So I ordered my Fast trak and Ground control today, get them next week, amped!

Had a Maxis Mono Rail in the front but found it washed out a bit on the single track trails, now swaped to a Schwalbe Nobby Nic. I have done just one ride and it feels awesome. Still have the Maxis Larsson on the rear. Thats on the 26er Full suss.

Kenda Honey Badgers on my 650 hard tail, recommended!

Just bought a wheelset that came new with Racing Ralph's, EVO tubeless ready, 2.2's. Will let them go for 300 p/tire, spanking new. Or r250 and a wheelset.

I have Maxxis Ardent front and Crossmark rear, and am very happy with that combo. Also the Maxxis are very well priced when compared to Geax & Contis.
