Anyone know how the SAS timing works?

If one is seeded in B batch for a Nissan trailseaker race for example and chooses to start in F batch to ride with a friend or wife or whatever, does your actual start and finish time get captured or do they take the time that you cross the line at and subtract it from your registered batch start time?

I can't see how they scan or capture your start number at the beginning of these races.

I guess I'm not a big racer but interested to know whether starting back a couple of batches affects your seeding or not?

As far as I understand it you can move down batches. You would just have to tell them before the race so they have it on their system, I assume a day or two before the race and not 40 minutes before the race.

That way your time would be measured as your actual race time and not starting in B batch and finishing F batch when you started with F batch.

They do ask you to let them know if you are dropping down or your time will start when you were supposed to start. Has happened a couple of times in the last few months.

What he said.

Sometime the mat "overhead gantry pick up thingymabob" picks up the new group you start in sometimes not. They now also seem to scan you into your pen for the Trailseeker races anyway. So they are aware there are people in the incorrect batch (up or down). Best to speak to the officials before the race at number pick up or on the day (which will be busy). They have always been helpful to myself and some mates wanting to change batches.

The number boards have an RFID sticker placed inside the board. When you cross the line the Reader, often placed above you, picks up the RFID sticker. this works the same way as the old floor mats. Time is taken from when you cross the line to start and stops again when you cross the line to finish.

if you are dropping back to ride with a mate and then worried about being slower and loosing your seeding index(which was a joke the last year I raced 2012) then just dont let them scan your board at the end. seen a few guys do that.
