The problem with making a trail to technical aka too enduro is that it won't cater for the numbers required to keep the place going....

Keep as is....just do a cleanup of the trails(fallen trees etc), and polish the trailhead a bit...coffee shop would be nice. Other than that....its perfect

I like the idea of Enduro trails at Kings. Anyone know what elevation we have to work with?

Contour Line at the gate is 1500m and the highest contour is at about 1660.

Which gives you about 150M elevation.

@ Rouxtjie, the last time I went there, just before they closed for the winter, some of the black route was by my standards on enduro line technicality. my poor 100mm bike took serious strain because of the erosion of the track.

it would make sense to make enduro lines off the main track, in other words, everyone uses the same track, but sectain sections has a split with either the regular black route, or the added fun of bigger drops and rock garden (seems kk is one big rock garden) just off the main line.

I think the place is primed for enduro, as is (maybe a little too much climbing) on an enduro bike, it just means higher speed down certain sections. With a little less butt clinching due to more forgiving suspension.

But i'm no trail builder.

Anyway, I am sure Hero Adventure is taking note of what is being posted here, as that is the reason they started the thread.

Yep also went there before they closed...and agree some routes had the potential for enduro but like you said, you work for your descents. The place just needs a little tlc and then she is good to go...

Our average Kzn Enduro is usually between 750 and 1500m of climbing over about 30kms. We can handle it. ;)

lekkers....oh just a sidenote...the climbing as with the downs are NOT smooth...its not district road / sappi service road climbing we talking here, you work hard for every meter.

But well worth it when you bomb down

Ja, I've ridden Kingskloof a few times. That one nontech climb meandering up the valley is soul destroying. The descents were steepish but mostly too straight down. Need to contour and wind it down the slope a bit more.

I know Slick has been to KK before.

I also know we do not have the elevation in the highveld that is required for Enduro tracks.

I have to agree with this...mother nature doesnt want it to happen.

That's true.

Done a lot of work on stage 1 with some very interesting jumps and drops.

Kings has been the proving grounds and the better part of my training grounds over the past few years. from the first time I put tread to trail there I fell in love with every turn that it threw at me.

Living in the area our group has made it a standard part of any outride. I can only believe that HERO will improve the trails and make the venue family friendly, Darrens team are well capable of making Kings the place to ride.

I agree with joining Heia and Kings (and if they can get the land owners to help open up the available trails towards Silverstar and on top of the hill will be awesome).

Our group of riders have extensive knowledge of the area and would love to help or even be the guinea pigs on the new and used trails.

Here is a recent Strava ride that we enjoy: http://www.strava.com/activities/167868297

Please let me know if any help is needed.

On top of that hill is open but dodge and will be hard or near impossible to ride. We often run the trails there from Walter Sisulu.

Just to let you all know that Kings has been over worked and now looks like the N14 Highway with a few fences that cut off the trails that were there. All the technical sections have be over manicured so there is not a stone in place to ride over. The Black ripe had been fenced of in multiple areas so you can not complete the ride with out climbing over.

All I can say is yes its now rideable to all people but as we all asked ever so nicely was to try leave it a little technical as this was why we loved Kings Kloof, please can the guys from Hero hold back just a little and leave us something difficult to ride.
