My GF wants me to fit a 25,4 "spring" seat post into a 31.6 seat tube. The shims I have are too small and I have run out of beer to build up using the tin. Any ideas as to how I can make up this 6.2 huge difference? Fitting it to an Alu GT hard tail frame.( And I am not going to buy her a DS) How safe would it be with this? Not too happy about it myself. Any advice would be appreciated.

Yip, it is a 25.4. I did try the cutting up of a post but still too thin. Best I have one machined from nylon as PeterF suggested. But thanks for the reply guys, appreciate it.

Try the above but use epoxy paste to take up the gap. Nylon might flex a bit too much. Bush needs to go down quite far into tube not just the upper section.

Nylon is too compressible and your seat post clamp with crush it. Have them turn it out of Aluminium or brass at least. You need a bush at the top AND the bottom to stabilise the seat post.

Thanks for all the great advice. Will turn one in alu at work. Best to play safe and it will be the whole length. Thanks guys.
