The water bridge did have a certain swing to it, do we know of any of the slower riders falling off it? The rescue marshall in his paddle boat was very wet, so at least one oke had to have taken a dive

I was miff when I realised the chicken run was faster than the bridge. If we're going to risk swimming then we should be given a few seconds as a reward

I couldn't do it unfortunately.. all I do know about other "technically challenging" Offroad Tri's or Du's is that there needs to be a lot of place for over taking.. hakahana has a lot of technical jeep track, rather make the route on jeep track then on singletrack, at least there is a chance to pass on jeep track

I am not a runner and hence got stuck behind the runners on the mtb section. I found the course about a 5 out of 10 in terms of being technical. But i was stuck for the 1st couple of km as the not so experienced cyclist stopped and every up or down or rock.

 

I hated that rat maize near the end, up down up down up down.

 

Water bridge seemed very unstable and i chose chicken run.

it looked worse than what it was... for a split second I was in 2 minds and then the shame went through my mind telling my fellow MTB friends that I took a chicken run on a DUATHLON race.... then I took the bridge and it wasn't so bad.

just realised dualx hakahana and 5150 bela bela are on the same weekend... sat and sun, could be a hectic training weekend to do the double...

Maybe start with a more open and flat first section to open up the field, that mountain was to fast on us. Switchbacks is supposed to be the jerry on the cake, not the whole cake!

Thanks for the feedback. You are in for a cracker at Hakahana!! Routes almost finalized taking in account many lessons learned form Heia and comments following. We think we have planned a perfectly balanced track for everyone and have made sure there is loads of spectator action at the venue too.

Not being cycling fit, I died on that 30km, and then got cramps on the vastus whatever !

I assume Hakahana will be the same?

every track is different. We have two main climbs but nothing silly..Loads of overtaking opportunity and some awesome singletrack too.
