Suunto M5 HR Watch

So I keep seeing this HR watch pop up on a couple of sites, and im wondering if anyone has used one and if it is any good?

 

I haven't owned any form of HR monitor before so I have no previous experience...

 

Any good (or bad) reviews or opinions out there? Is it worth the $$$?

Ok cool, Ive just read many mixed reviews - and wanted to get a local opinion... Does it work for swimming though?

I have one as well. Blooming difficult to understand how to work it but I am sure you will manage. No problems at all though.

I have a Suunto Quest, as far as I know the internals are the same between the Quest and the M5 (just the case thats a little different). The Quest have been going strong for the last year and a half (think I've recorded about 300 hours worth of HR data on it, 95% cycling).

 

Are you looking at buying one? The price is not bad (for HR only with upload function to see pretty graphs). It really depends on what you want to do (this HR is perfect for gym).

Just a hr monitor in this form, needs speed, cadence and or gps pods if you want speed, cadence or to track routes. No swimming function, hr monitor does not work under water. Look to the Ambit 2 if you want swimming functionality, I use one and rate it tops, had Garmin 910xt as comparison. Wait for Ambit 3 which will have Bluetooth hr meaning it will work for swimming

Thats a pretty damn good price, considering they both do the exact same thing? Don't see any difference between them - except the M5 looks hotter!

We have a family of M-series products from Suunto but it seems they've discontinued them, and more annoyingly, the production of the watch straps. They break way too often and now we can't replace them even. Looking to another brand - but perhaps this built-in obsolescence is a common thing these days? Does Garmin do this?
